Long Overdue Update!

Wow! A lot has happened since I last posted.

WE MOVED TO WAXAHACHIE!!

Stephen got a job in Ennis at JTEKT, as a quality engineer. It fell into his lap, and the process was quick and seamless, and he began his new job April 18. We put our house in Corinth on the market and "moved" to Waxahachie! We found a house that we absolutely LOVE that was available to assume their mortgage and it was a dream situation, the previous owners needed out because he too had a new job, and we needed in! So we are renting it from them until we close on it. Selling our house has not been quite so simple....it took 25 showings in 12 weeks before we got an offer. Luckily we came to a good compromise with the buyers and so far, so good, we are scheduled to close on July 25. Stephen's new company has been amazing with paying for our rent and food since we've been here... their relocation package has been a huge blessing and has enabled us to move without much headache. They helped us move our small load of stuff to live on, and will help us pack and move everything else here in a couple of weeks. We are so very ready to have all of our things here, and be finished with all the house buying and selling!!

Stephen likes his new job. At first, it was so very different from Peterbilt in every way, but as time has gone on (he's been there almost 2 months now!) he likes it more and more. It's still very different, as this company is a Japanese company, so protocol is different, and there's a language barrier with many of the employees. He is much more independent here, he is currently one of two quality engineers.... at Peterbilt he was one of about 250 engineers. He's already done some traveling to Tennessee, and is about to do some more - he will be in Detroit for 2 days this week. His job is basically to oversee the production of steering column parts for Nissan cars, and make sure that the quality is good, and when it's not, working out the process to improve it.

Of course I am thrilled to be back in Waxahachie. It has been an adjustment, even for me, because I haven't lived here in 10 years, and Waxahachie has grown and changed a lot since then!! We're used to our quiet little life, and it's been much less quiet here, and in a way I miss that. (I also miss being able to run errands and be 90% sure I won't see anyone I know!). However, being able to see my family and friends makes up for it tenfold... it's been absolutely wonderful! Since we've been back, I've been busy cutting hair, making cakes, and planning our 10-year reunion. I can't wait to add decorating our new house to that list! We took a great little trip to Salado to celebrate our 5-year anniversary, and it was fun to get away together.

Kemble has adjusted well. She loves, loves, loves: seeing her family and friends much more often-hardly a day goes by that we don't get to see somebody, swimming at our neighborhood pool - especially in the splash zone, going up and down the staircase in our new house (she mastered that after the first time I showed her how to go safely up and down!), running around in laps around the kitchen island and the living room, playing outside in our backyard - especially with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and her "car" (but she is anxiously awaiting her swingset!), sliding at the big slide at the neighborhood park, having a playroom all to herself, & jumping and wrestling on our air mattress (Momma and Daddy are quite ready to have a real bed instead though!!!). At first, she wasn't sleeping great, I think the move was just a shock to her and everything was foreign, but we got her furniture and bedding here as quick as we could and now she is perfectly at home. It was only days after we moved in and she would run to her room when we asked her to.

She is growing up so fast!! She is getting bigger, and has moved into a size 5 shoe (unfortunately she waited until after we bought a few pairs of summer sandals to do so!). She has an obsession with shoes, begs for them at the store, and loves to try on everyone else's shoes. She's wearing clothes anywhere from 18 months-2T, and she loves to get undressed by herself, and helps with getting dressed. Sometimes she wakes up in her bed with no pants on, luckily she does not bother to take off the diaper though! She still isn't talking, but there is more and more baby talk every day, and each day it seems I hear a new word. She talks constantly, it's just that she doesn't form actual words too often. Today, I asked her what a frog said and she replied "wibbit" clear as a bell! She's never even attempted to say what a frog said before. If you catch her off guard, she's likely to say something correctly, but it's not always repeated...usually if you ask her to say something she says "ah-dah". For. Everything. She can identify, well, just about anything under the sun. She can identify all colors, all animals, most shapes, and even many letters and numbers. She just doesn't say them! She loves to count things by pointing to them, of course it's Mama saying the numbers. She is so very smart, and she is very observant - never misses a beat! She is also very curious and inquisitive and loves to read her books, increasingly she prefers to sift through them on her own more than being read to. We're going to try to get her in some playgroups to play with other kiddos this summer, and we're starting kindermusik in a couple of weeks. Hopefully that'll get her talking!

I would describe Kemble at this age as:
  • independent - she wants to walk everywhere by herself and often won't hold our hands. Her new favorite thing is to help push the shopping cart instead of riding in it (she screams bloody murder if you try to make her). As you can imagine, that slows us down just a bit!!
  • curious - she loves to figure out how things work or how they're put together
  • sweet - hugs, kisses, eskimo kisses, air kisses, pat-pats and snuggles are THE BEST from her! My favorite is when she sneaks up behind me to give me hugs, kisses and pats when I'm not expecting it!
  • defiant - she loves to test her boundaries and see how much screaming and stomping will get her what she wants... she'll look us straight in the eye and do something while we're telling her no. She also has gotten a nasty habit of scratching/pinching/hitting/pulling hair when she's really mad, and that has GOT to go!
  • fun - she is more and more fun every single day to play with, she is so interactive!
  • a daredevil - she is not afraid of anything.... scares her mama to death!
  • tough - when she has a tumble, she fights off the tears almost every time - so proud of that!
  • observant - she always has been observant, but moreso now than ever. she hears, sees, and discovers EVERYTHING around her
  • creative - she loves to draw circles and lines, color pictures, and play with play-doh using my fondant tools
  • a girly-girl - everything is "ditty" (pretty), she loves bracelets and necklaces and hats and shoes, she loves to get her hands dirty but wants them quickly cleaned up, can't stand it if her clothes get wet or dirty, and loves to shop for things for herself!
  • technologically savvy - it's amazing to me that she knows how to operate an iPhone/iPod, any cell phone she's handed (sorry if you've been kemble-dialed by my phone a time or two!), and even now my digital camera. She loves to type emails and watch youtube too. We'll be in trouble when she figures out how to do more than hold up the remote control and push random buttons til something happens.
  • silly - she is starting to learn to be silly on purpose, and loves to laugh at anything funny.
  • a picky eater - my girl who used to eat everything is now picky! she actually still likes a wide variety of foods, but just seems to be only in the mood for a few things at a time, and I am not always good at figuring out what suits her from day to day. You can almost always bet on fruit, yogurt, Cheerios and Goldfish though!
I could never, ever in a million years type up a summary of what Kemble's like these days, or how she's grown since I last tried in February.... but she is just such an absolute joy to us every day, well, at least 90% of the time! She gives us a run for our money sometimes but that's her job and hopefully soon she will be talking and won't get so frustrated that she can't communicate her wants and needs. Her smiles and laughs are my whole world! It's so fun to watch her grow and learn.

Lastly, we are so excited for this fun summer! In less than a month, we'll be at the beach!! I know Kemble's going to love it! Last year she began crawling at the beach, maybe this year we'll get to talking! What a difference a year makes!! :)
