Fun at the Zoo

Well, with the weather we are having right now, it's pretty hard to believe that just a few days ago we were at the zoo in sunny, warm weather! We chose the PERFECT day to go! Apparently, everyone else in the DFW metroplex also chose the perfect day, because it was packed (and I might or might not have had to drive on a sidewalk, over a median, through a few lanes of traffic, and a detour through the ghetto to dodge the huge long line of traffic to get in), but we still had tons of fun!

Daddy Butch and BB met us there, and thankfully they beat us and got in line and got our tickets for us so we didn't have to wait!

First, we saw the lemurs.

Then, we got pretty close to the elephants in the Dallas Zoo's wonderful new Wild of Africa exhibit.

There, we also saw warthogs.

After that, we got to see and FEED the giraffes, my personal favorite!

We watched the guinea fowl practice for their ESPN Super Bowl prediction race.

Then we saw lions and cheetahs.

Then we checked out the gorillas and chimps, and the busy little armadillo who lives with the chimps.

Kemble did NOT want any part of the gorilla statues.... but we managed to get her to sit on the Croc with Daddy Butch and BB.

Somewhere in there, we stopped for a snack break.

We saw lots and lots of birds, probably Kemble's favorites.

We also saw a tiger, but some mean kids kept blocking Kemble's view, and we saw the cocky camels. They really are strange, and not very attractive at all! They looked at us like WE were the zoo animals! We saw lots of snakes and frogs in the herpetarium. I didn't get pictures of any of that though.

We saw the flamingos and macaws, then headed to the children's zoo where Kemble loved the pigs, bunnies, horses, fish and ducks...but she especially liked getting to feed and pet the goats!

We saw two pretty mountain lions who were licking their chops, and fighting each other over who got to eat the kids running around.

....And then we headed home!

Kemble loves animals and knows what a lot of the animals "say". She was too funny, the entire time we were there she wouldn't roar, hiss, meow, or squeal like an elephant, and I don't think she even named any of the animals she knows how to say. But she soaked it all up because on the way home, she kept talking about zebras (zezas) -- which we didn't even get to see, they were hiding. Zezas are her favorites, and I was hyping them up until I realized she woudln't get to see them, so maybe she was letting me know she was disappointed! We will just have to take her back! Now she is even more into telling me what all the animals say, and is amazingly accurate!

She was such a big girl, she really took in the animals and studied everything. She really liked seeing the other kids everywhere too. Part of the time she wanted to walk all. by. herself. but we managed to trick her into getting into the stroller, and she even got a ride on Daddy's back for a while.

Kemble's first trip to the zoo was a huge success, and I think she is already looking forward to another trip in the spring. I doubt we will catch any more nice weather until then!
