Kemble at Six Months

-You weighed in at 14 pounds, 5 ounces. You are 25 1/2 inches long, and your head circumference is 16 1/2 inches.
-You are in the 25th - 45th percentile for all 6 month olds on all of your measurements, which is pretty darn good considering you were in the 5th-10th percent at birth!!
-You still love to stand up! You think you are so big, and you can see the world from two feet off the ground! You will even take steps if we help you... sometimes I wonder if you'll be standing or walking before you're crawling!

-You have a newfound love of jumping. I will hold you by your hands up above your head, and help you jump, and you just laugh and laugh and laugh. You bend your right leg up as if jumping on your own, but not your left! Too funny!
-You have found your toes! You spend almost all of your time playing with your feet. I think you wish I'd let you sleep in footless PJ's so you could grab your toes all the time. If your hands are preoccupied, you will put your feet together so your toes can wiggle together. You like to prop your feet up on anything you can, I even found you sleeping with one leg propped up on the bumper pad the other day during a nap.

-You are sitting up for a few seconds by yourself! Sometimes it's a minute or so, sometimes you immediately crash, it just depends on how distracted you are by other things. You get better and better at it, and I know you'll be sitting independently pretty soon!

-You have just begun to show interest in moving around when you're on your tummy. You will squirm alllll around and I'll often find you turned 360 degrees from where I laid you down within just a few seconds of me leaving the room. When we put you on your tummy, you scoot your legs back and forth in a crawling motion or sometimes even get your legs almost ready to bear crawl. You stick your bottom up in the air, and sometimes you can even scoot a little, but it's usually backwards. You just started all this within the past few days, so we're anxious to see how quickly (or slowly) it develops into a real crawl.

-You've forgotten that you knew how to roll over. When I put you on your tummy, you are fine for a while, especially if I turn on Baby Einstein or give you a mirror. You work on squirming around and trying to crawl, then you eventually crash and turn your head to the side and lay there pretty satisfied. When you get tired of it, you get frustrated and you never, ever, roll over to your back anymore like you used to.

-You are still so very, very happy. You smile constantly, laugh often, and you still melt our hearts with every grin.
-You are quite aggressive with your teething habits. Anything you can get your hands on goes into your mouth, and you frantically bite and chew at it. You scream if you drop it. Your favorite thing to chew on is my finger, because it won't fall to the ground :)
-You eat rice cereal twice, or sometimes three, times a day. You devour it every time.

-You still eat about 7-8 oz 4 times per day. You pretty much are like clockwork: 8-ish, 12ish, 4:30-ish, and 7:30-ish.
-You still spit up from time to time, but it seems to be getting less frequent. Some days you spit up all day, some days you don't spit up a drop! We hope that means your reflux is getting better.
-You are still taking two naps a day usually, but they vary greatly in length, anywhere from 30 minutes to over 2 hours. Sometimes you catnap periodically instead, especially if we're out and about.
-You still don't hold your bottle by yourself, but you still try to often. You'd really rather hold onto my fingers instead though.
-You talk often to us or your toys, but you seem to be kinda shy. When strangers talk to you, you may smile at them, then you just look at me, like "do something, mama!"
-You still love your exersaucer, but you have gotten extremely brave!!!! You throw yourself in every direction to make it shake, you try to jump a little bit, and you have learned to play with almost all of the toys on it. You still can't hit your teapot lid to make it sing, but you love for us to hit it for you! We even had to move the legs to the next notch up because you were getting too tall.

-You rarely suck your thumb anymore, and sometimes, at 3am, I sure wish you would! :)
-You put everything on top of your face: books, stuffed animals, burp cloths, blankets, toys.... but then you get them stuck and frantically cry and shake your arms and legs in panic until we come get it off for you. It's kind of scary, and I wish you'd learn to get them off your face by yourself! Or quit putting them over it in the first place, silly!
-You still love your baths, but you now hate for us to clean your face in the bath or after eating.
-You still love to be read to all the time, this month we read The Poky Little Puppy, Alice in Wonderland, and Three Little Owls a lot.
-You love music and anytime music comes on TV you smile and laugh. We watched Cinderella the other day and you loved all the songs.
-You LOVE for us to sing Old McDonald to you!!!! You smile and giggle every time we get to E-I-E-I-O
-You are still mostly wearing the same clothes, but several of your 6-month pajamas have gotten too short. The stack of clothes you've outgrown grows daily, and I'm constantly going through your bigger stuff, looking to see what needs to be washed for you to start wearing. We are getting into your summer clothes, we just need the weather to cooperate!!
-Even though you just started wearing size 2 diapers, we're already moving to size 2-3. I'm so glad they make them because you seem to be between sizes. The 2's still fit, but they won't for much longer so we didn't want to buy a whole box of them. Overnight diapers have helped you sleep all the way through the night again! Yay!
-Your daddy makes you light up like no one else can. He's so thrilled about it, and he think you're pretty incredible too! :)
-You like me a lot too, though :) You are still fascinated by watching me do my hair and makeup. Actually you pretty much watch me do anything I do: eat, cook, clean, talk on the phone, play Bubble Popp....
-You're starting to get a little more picky about who holds you these days....
-We've finally gotten a bow to stay in your hair by itself without a headband a few times! It's so cute! One day it stayed in all day long, and you didn't even try to pull it out. Good job!
-You have a really strong kick... you love to lay on your changing table or at your gym and kick like crazy!!! Sometimes we worry you're going to hurt yourself because you kick so hard! You'll pull both legs up and then bang them down as hard as you can!
-You've also started to climb me! When I go to pick you up, you immediately start climbing up me with your feet and i have to pry them off to get you down.
-You still don't reach out for us to pick you up, but we're dying for you to!
-Everywhere we go when people ask how old you are, and we tell them, their response is "Oh, she's soooo little!". I'm SO tired of hearing it, because I think you're pretty huge myself!
-You've begun to laugh at things appropriately. For example, earlier I sort of dropped your bottle while you were eating, and you laughed. If I drop a glob of cereal on its way to your mouth, you smile, and after you sneeze, you always laugh.
-When I was pregnant with you, I called you Doodlebug because the sonographer could never see what she needed to see because after she's start poking and prodding you would curl up in a ball with your feet over your face. Anyway, it just slipped out again the other day, and I realized the nickname is still fitting since you still curl up in a ball in order to grab your toes, so I think that will end up being my official nickname for you just for me to use, and I've been using it nonstop!
-I just decided what the fun theme will be for your first birthday party.... but I'm not telling!!! :)

Daddy and I love you so much, we are having so much fun with you, and we are so proud of how much you are growing and learning!
