Nevermind the fact that Graham is 5 months old now.... (HOW has that happened so fast?!?!?!) But that's a post for a different day! I wrote down everything I wanted to blog about when he was 6 weeks old, and I never got time to do it. So here it is! Just pretend you're going back in time to May. Better late than never has become my new motto, being a mom of two!
- He is the sweetest, easiest little guy. He likes to eat, sleep, and play. He is always happy, content and alert.
- He's a lazy nurser... he'd rather fall asleep than nurse. When he was almost 1 week old, we saw the pediatrician and after I told him his wet diapers were pretty minimal, he told us to continue nursing exclusively but to have his weight checked a few days later to make sure he was continuing to gain weight. Over the weekend, his wet diaper count stayed pretty low (and they really weren't very saturated) and his little soft spot started to feel sunken in (or maybe it was my imagination, but still, it was scary). We caved and gave him a bottle, which he hungrily guzzled down. We began supplementing every feeding with formula after nursing. Around 5 weeks things started to improve a little in the nursing department. But by 7-8 weeks he just really wanted more, quicker than I was able to provide. When pumping I consistently got about half an ounce to an ounce, total, and he was already taking 3-4 ounces at a time. We decided to call it quits. I am proud I was able to give him the good stuff as long as possible, but also very disappointed that it didn't work out as planned. I know he'll be just fine, I just wish my body would do what it is supposed to do.
- He slept through the night (12am to 6am) by 3 weeks old! That is AFTER his wide awake time just before midnight every night!
- He HATES having a wet diaper! If he's crying, it's the first thing we do, and it usually is the culprit. His look of glee and lack of tears when he gets to his changing table is apparent, too!
- He chuckles during his sleep quite often. :)
- He loves being in his Boba wrap or Baby Bjorn, and boy, it is a lifesaver at the grocery store, especially since his ginormo carseat doesn't fit in the cart!
- He absolutely loves bath time! I've never seen a newborn who loves a bath, but he does and has since his first sponge bath! He especially loves having his hair washed! Crazy, I know! Future swimmer maybe?
- He is super strong. He has held his head up since he was born, but he gets stronger every day. By 6-8 weeks he's batting at his toys and grabbing my hair.
- He began smiling on cue at 6 weeks old. He especially loves to grin at his sister, who he thinks is pretty hilarious!
- He loves to hear his own name and always turns and smiles when you say it.
- He loves his hula monkey toy, just like Kemble did!
- He will nap on his tummy, but otherwise doesn't care too much for tummy time. He also has been rolling over from his tummy to his back (inconsistently but occasionally) since about 3 weeks old.
- He likes to nap amongst the chaos of the living room. Lights, TV, Kemble putting on a show complete with guitar, xylophone and microphone - you name it, he sleeps through it! White noise also does the trick when we're out and about. He instantly calms when I turn on the white noise app on my phone. It's kind of crazy.
- He's growing sooo fast. At 2 months old he began wearing 3-month clothes. He outgrew his newborn pajamas at 6 weeks!
- He has a hemangioma on his back. I first noticed it when he was a couple weeks old. It looked like a teeny scratch, flat and a little red. It slowly morphed into a bulging little red bump. The pediatrician told us it shouldn't get much bigger since it's so small and has grown so slowly, and that it will stay there until he's around 10 years old, then fade away. It's not dangerous at all and it's nothing to be concerned with whatsoever. It's just a little part of my sweet boy that I love as much as the rest of him!
- At his 2 month appointment he checked in at 10 lbs, 9 oz and 22 3/4 inches.
